The new governor of Massachusetts said he will consider legalizing slot machines, a move that would open the door for Class III gaming for tribes.
Gov. Deval Patrick (D) said gaming could help the state close a $1 billion budget shortfall and help local governments. He plans to make a decision on the matter within the next three months. If slot machines are legalized, the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts could open a casino.
