Pueblo of Santa Ana jumps into sports betting industry

The Pueblo of Santa Ana will be the first tribe in New Mexico to offer sports betting.

A sports book will open at the Santa Ana Star Casino and Hotel on Tuesday, October 16. The tribe's partner is USBookmaking.

"We specialize in the ability to get to market quickly and operate efficiently," Vic Salernor, the president of USBookmaking, said in a press release.

A landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision opened the door for tribes and states to offer sports betting. Though the state of New Mexico hasn't taken specific action since the May 14 ruling, the Pueblo of Santa Ana is able to offer such wagers through its Class III gaming compact.

The Santa Ana Star Casino is less than 20 miles from Albuquerque, the most populous city in New Mexico.
