Michigan Supreme Court to hear compact suit

The Michigan Supreme Court is hearing arguments today in a case that challenges the legality of tribal gaming compacts.

Taxpayers of Michigan Against Casinos says all compacts must be approved by state lawmakers. But the state says the governor was given the authority to approve amendments to the agreements.

The lawsuit affects the compact signed by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. But other tribes could be affected .

A ruling is expected by August 2007.
