First Nation in Alberta finishing construction of casino
The Enoch Cree Nation in Alberta is wrapping up construction of the $178 million River Cree Resort and Casino. The facility is the first Native casino in the province. It will feature 600 slot machines and 40 gaming tables. It is set to open in late October. More than 5,000 people have applied for the 700 to 800 jobs. The casino is expected to provide an economic boon to the First Nation, whose unemployment rate is around 65 percent. The casino was developed by Paragon Gaming, who will receive 15 percent of gaming revenues. The Alberta Lottery Fund will receive 30 percent, the Enoch Cree Nation will receive 30 per cent and the remaining 10 percent will be set aside for other First Nations in Alberta. Revenues from the resort side of the casino will be split 55-45 between Paragon and Enoch. Get the Story:
