States to tackle off-reservation gaming at summit

Off-reservation casinos will be one of the topics at the Western Governors' Association summit on Indian gaming next month.

A growing number of tribes are seeking casinos away from their reservations, even in other states. In nearly every case, state officials are fighting the proposals.

Also on the agenda is Class II technologic aids. Some states argue that tribes are operating games that are essentially slot machines but are called bingo.

The governors are meeting in Denver, Colorado, on March 29-30.
