Greenville Rancheria seeks casino near another tribe

The Maidu Indians of the Greenville Rancheria are seeking to open a casino in another tribe's territory.

The Maidu Tribe has chosen a site in Tehama County for the casino. The tribe is offering the county $665,120 a year in payments.

The site is located 90 miles from the rancheria. That has the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians worried. "We're very firmly against 'reservation shopping,'" Paskenta council member Leslie Lohse told The Redding Record-Searchlight.

The Paskenta Band's casino is 18 miles from the Maidu's proposed site.
