Mich. tribe still considering state tax agreement

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community of Michigan will hold a referendum this month on a proposed tax agreement with the state.

Tribal leaders are concerned about provisions that waive sovereign immunity. The state wants the tribe to collect and remit taxes for cigarette sales.
