Proposal to create Indian center advances
Wednesday, March 12, 2003

A plan to create an American Indian cultural center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, moved one step closer to reality on Tuesday.

A county parks committee voted 5-2 to negotiate a lease with HONOR, Honor Our Neighbors' Origins and Rights, an Indian advocates group that wants to open the $2.5 million center. The full county still has to approve.

The center, to be built on the site of an old Coast Guard station the lakefront, would house exhibits about Great Lakes tribes.
