Letter: Hate crimes in S.D.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6, 2002

"The racially motivated incident of Nov. 1, 2001, at the gymnasium consisting of verbal abuse of Dakota female teen-agers, the racial taunts, the possession and discharging of firearms by washeechoo (white) boys is the purest form of racial supremacy and inequality and of being above the law. Now, when the perpetrators of these crimes get convicted, they need to pay for the counseling of these victims. This was a hate crime.

The last time Lakotas were equal to white men in this country was at the Battle of Little Big Horn.

Today, no equality. I am a red man in a white man's town."
