WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 2002 "Bar owners want video slot machines in every Nebraska town and neighborhood. They propose up to 30,000 slot machines across the state, seven times as many as are in Council Bluffs, Iowa. And they want to enshrine in Nebraska's Constitution their monopoly right to keep 55 percent of the proceeds. Not to be left out, keno operators are pushing a petition that would "limit" the number of slots across Nebraska to more than 150,000 - with no limit at all in metro Omaha. Under federal law, approval of either petition will automatically legalize tribal casinos in Nebraska, as well. Nonetheless, the Santee Sioux, funded by their long-time illegal casino, continue to push a constitutional amendment in Nebraska's Legislature. And two new gambling expansion bills have popped up the legislature now, as well. Nebraska's state senators know better. So do Nebraskans. . ." Get the Story:
