Means pressing run in N.M.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 1, 2002

Russell Means went to the State House in New Mexico on Tuesday to prove he is fit for public office.

Running for governor on an independent ticket, the state is refusing to recognize Means as a viable candidate because of his past criminal record. He served time in South Dakota for a law now off the books.

Incumbent Gov. Gary Johnson, who can't run again due to term limits, has refused to certify Means' full rights. The state cites his recent domestic violence brush, which did not not result in charges.
