TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2002

Six Virginia tribes will be meeting for a pow-wow this week to draw support for their federal recognition.

The tribes are state recognized and reside on the first reservations created in the United States. Attempts to gain recognition through Congress have stalled over concerns, largely from Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.), about gaming.

The pow-wow will be held at the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds in Charles City.
