The Bureau of Indian Affairs has adopted a new policy on driving by employees.

The BIA will check driving histories and not allow those with unsafe records to operate government vehicles. Unsafe includes having an alcohol-related conviction in the past six years.

The policy comes in response to a recent accident involving a BIA employee in New Mexico in which four people died. Lloyd Larson, who has a past record pf driving under the influence, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder this week.
