Written comments and the transcripts from three tribal consultation meetings over the proposed reorganization of Indian trust are available for viewing at the Department of Interior's reading room.

Interested persons may review the documents from 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1849 C St. NW. Use the C street entrance to gain access.

The reading room has a copy machine for those who wish to make copies of documents. The staff will copy up to 25 or 30 pages for free, but will allow unlimited copies at no cost if paper is supplied.

Readers may view written comments submitted to date on the creation of the Bureau of Indian Trust Assets Management (BITAM). The transcripts, comprising more than a thousand pages, from the Albuquerque, New Mexico; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma are also available.

There was no indication from the department when transcripts from other sessions would be ready. Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb's office is in charge of collecting and maintaining the comments but has been slow to make the information available.

The December 11 Federal Register notice which first set out the consultation schedule tasked McCaleb's office with the duty but staff members were unaware of it until notified by the press.
