Santee Sioux considering casino push

If the Nebraska Legislature doesn't act to allow casino gaming on the state's reservation, the Santee Sioux Tribe will try to get the issue on the 2002 ballot, vice-chair Thelma Thomas says.

Thomas said she is asking Nebraska's three tribes to help in the effort. Other non-tribal groups have already started a voter petition to allow slot machines, which the attorney general's office says would pave the way for Indian gaming.
