The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut opened its new hotel on Tuesday.

The 34-story, 1,200-room hotel is part of the tribe's $1 billion expansion of its casino resort. Gaming facilities have been increased, a concert arena has opened and a convention center is being developed.

In an editorial today, The Norwich Bulletin calls the hotel the "crown jewel" of the expansion. "The Mohegan Sunburst is a welcome and impressive presence on the landscape," the paper writes.
