Company was distributing to tribe

A Kansas company whose equipment was seized as part of a taxation dispute was delivering gas to a Kansas tribe.

But the state denies it was targeting the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation by bringing a tax claim against the company, Davies Oil. Tribal chairman Badger Wahwasuck claims otherwise and says his tribe is being pressured because of court cases pending that challenge the tax.

The state also seized equipment and filed charges against the Winnebago Tribe for alleged failure to pay gas distribution taxes. The tribe is planning a federal action.

Davis Oil is not a tribally-owned company.
