Choctaw casino decision big news

FRIDAY, MARCH 8, 2002

Thursday's rejection of a casino compact between the Jena Band of Choctaws and the state of Louisiana continues to be big news, focusing on what might happen next.

Gov. Mike Foster says he tried to get the best deal for the state. Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb didn't agree and said the tribe was being forced to share its revenues for the privilege of gaming.

Critics of the deal, on the other hand, were pleased. Opposition from Congress and other gaming interests was great.
