FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 2002 A Native American lawmaker running for governor in South Dakota wants tribes to work with the industry to develop a meatpacking plant. State Sen. Ron Volesky, a Democrat from Huron, said a hog and beef slaughtering plant near Sioux Falls would be a win-win for all involved. He said tribes should be encouraged to expand their economies beyond the reservation. Volesky is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Get the Story:
