Smokin' Joe sues Oneida casino

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2002 Legendary boxer Smokin' Joe Frazier filed a lawsuit last week against the casino owned by the Oneida Nation of New York. Frazier alleges the Turning Stone Casino used his image without his permission to promote a June 2001 fight between his daughter, Jacqui Frazier-Lyde, and Laila Ali, the daughter of Muhammad Ali. Although he visited the casino to attend the fight, the suit alleges his religious views were offended by his name associated with gambling. Frazier filed his lawsuit in federal court, seeking $7 million in compensatory damages and $9 million in punitive damages. Get the Story:
