TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2002

The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans of Wisconsin on Monday asked the Department of Interior to take 333 acres of land into trust for gaming purposes.

The tribe and partner Trading Cove Associates plan to build a $600 million in the Catskills region of New York. The facility would be one of three in the area that have been authorized by the State Legislature.

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York and partner Park Place Entertainment filed a land-into-trust application for their casino last year. The Clinton administration had approved the tribe's previous request after a three-year wait but the tribe switched partners and had to reapply all over again.
