MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2002

A notice was published in the Federal Register on Friday regarding the affirmed recognition of the Cowlitz Tribe of Washington.

Some issues had been referred to Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb for reconsideration. The Quinault Nation, a federally recognized tribe in Washington, had wanted the Cowlitz status revoked.

McCaleb decided that the Clinton administration's decision was valid and has issued an affirmed final determination which addresses the issues raised.
