Residents of the Connecticut town of North Stonington have approved spending an additional $58,000 to fight the federal recognition bids of the Eastern Pequot Tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe.

According to The Norwich Bulletin, the town has already spend $49,000 of the amount approved. Residents voted 26 to 14 for the money anyway.

The paper reported the town spent $135,528 last year to fight the tribes. The tribes received preliminary recognition in March 2000 and a final decision is due in June.
