TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2002

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to consider whether a "three strikes" tough-on-crime policy is unconstitutional.

The Court accepted two cases that will test laws which have been passed in more than 20 states. States put offenders behind bars for long sentences after a third crime is committed.

Separately, the Court, without explanation, decided not to rule in an age discrimination case it heard last month. The action marks the second time this term the Court has thrown out a case.
