Alaska Native status mulled

The Department of Interior hasn't yet decided whether it will review the federal status of more than 200 Alaska Native governments, a request that has drawn the ire of tribal leaders.

But Republicans in Congress and in the state Legislature aren't the only ones concerned. Alaska Natives themselves are considering their fate and have formed the Commission on Self-Determination under the auspices of the Alaska Federation of Natives to examine issues affecting recognition.
