WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13, 2002

Imprisoned American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier has asked a federal appeals court to reduce his two life sentences.

Peltier, convicted of murdering two FBI agents, wants the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to consider whether he had the opportunity to present an alternate defense. He claims, at most, that he aided the murders, or possibly acted in self defense.
