A Nebraska county judge on Friday held a hearing for a Native activist arrested June 1999 for protesting liquor sales near the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Tom Poor Bear faces a misdemeanor charge for participating in the protest. Similar charges against John Yellow Bird Steele, Frank LaMere, Webster Poor Bear, Gary Moore and Benedict Black Elk were dropped although some legal issues apparently remain unresolved.

Actor and author Russell Means also participated in the protest but pleaded guilty and paid $100 for failure to obey a lawful order.
