WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2002

Chief Richard Velky of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut says he expects the Bureau of Indian Affairs to issue a proposed finding on this tribe's recognition in the second half of 2003.

Until then, Velky said his tribe is continuing to consider areas to hose possible economic development, including a casino. He also said the tribe isn't ruling out land claims.

The tribe's petition has been pending for two decades. Two other Schaghticoke groups are also seeking recognition
