Ex-Ojibwe leader pleads guilty

FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2002 The former chairman of the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa pleaded guilty on Thursday to the misapplication of tribal funds, the U.S. Attorney's office in western Michigan said. For the disappearance of more than $150,00 in tribal funds, John McGeshick Sr. faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine and a $100 special assessment fee. He may also be ordered to pay back the money. The misapplication to which McGeshick pleaded guilty occurred from 1994 until 1998 when he was chairman. Sentencing is scheduled May 13. Get the Story:
