Violence and threats surface in Guatemala

FRIDAY, MAY 3, 2002 Violence and threats against human rights workers in Guatemala have their supporters worried. An accountant for Mayan activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchú was shot dead in what was called a robbery by police. Although suspects were quickly identified, Menchú says her organization was targeted. Four anthropologists uncovering mass graves left the country this week after repeated death threats. They were investigating the country's bloody civil war which resulted in the deaths of thousands of Mayans. Get the Story:
