The James Bay Cree First Nation is moving towards finalizing an historic resource management and economic development agreement with the government of Quebec.

The pact calls for the band to assume greater control over forestry, mining, tourism and hydro development on the reserve. For greater control over timber management, the band is agreeing to drop, for now, a $3 billion claim against the forestry industry.
