WEDNESDAY, MAY 1, 2002

The Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico has received three letters threatening more fires on the reservation unless President Sara Misquez resigns.

The letters claim responsibility for a rash of fires. But the tribe isn't sure they are authentic or whether someone is using the blazes for political gain.

Misquez was re-elected during a contested election.
