Tribal leaders and preservationists are welcoming an oil company's decision not to drill at a sacred site in Montana.

Anschutz Exploration Corp., which is owned by Colorado billionaire Philip Anschutz, said it would give up drilling rights at Weatherman Draw. Also known as Valley of the Chiefs, the area is used by a number of tribes for ceremonies and contains historic rock art.

The area used to be part of the Crow Reservation. The tribe praised the withdrawal of drilling as a major victory.
