Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge will have little impact on the Porcupine caribou herd, according to Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.).

"The American people gotta understand the facts," Burns was reported saying during a telephone press call. "And the facts are that the impacts on the caribou herd will be nil."

Burns said tests must be done in ANWR to prove there is oil. He has been pushing domestic development as a means of reducing dependence on foreign oil sources.
