Federal officials have placed into custody a man for trying to prevent the capture of bison in Yellowstone National Park.

The man, whom officials said identified himself as "Coyote," is a member of a group opposed to capture of bison from the park. Under a federal-state plan approved by the Clinton administration, Montana state officials are allowed to shoot bison for fear of transmitting a disease to cattle.

Four women arrested for protesting the policy appeared in state court on Tuesday, They pleaded innocent and said they would undertake a hunger strike.
