Judges on energy cases get itchy

FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 2002

Federal judge overseeing lawsuits that seek to force the White House into releasing information about Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force are getting impatient.

One judge said the Bush administration is stalling while another accused government attorneys of playing games. The comments follow an order by another judge who told the White House to turn over documents that it has been holding back.

The judge in the General Accounting Office lawsuit hasn't been reported to have said anything of note. He has to decide whether to force Cheney's office into releasing names and subject matter of industry officials who met with the task force.

According to The New York Times, those who met with Cheney weren't connected just because of their energy credentials but of their political donations. The paper reports that 18 of the top 25 contributors to the GOP had sessions with the task force.
