The Department of Interior's Office of Hearings and Appeals has temporarily halted drilling outside the Arches National Park in Utah.

Appeals director Robert S. More said the oil exploration project would cause irreparable harm. The project had been approved by the Bureau of Land Management, which still plans on drilling the area.

The Interior's Board of Land Appeals will consider an appeal.
