THURSDAY, JANUARY 24, 2002

The Alaska House on Wednesday voted 33-2 to give $1.1 million to a lobbying group trying to convince the Senate to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling.

The bill approved would also give the Inupiat village of Kaktovik $100,000 to produce a video on drilling. Part of the money would offset costs from tourists stopping at the village.

The bill goes onto the Senate for a vote.
