Loss of snowshoe tradition feared

There are but a few Alaska Natives who still practice the traditional Athabaskan technique of snowshoe making.

Snowshoes date back thousands of years, perfected by Athabaskan artisans. Various styles were designed to reflect regional differences in Alaska.

Most of the snowshoe makers are elderly and some fear the tradition will be lost forever.
