Omaha tribe plans new museum

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2002 The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska is planning to open a 45,000-square-foot museum to house its sacred artifacts and serve as a repository for Omaha culture. Called the New Moon Returning Interpretive Center / Museum, it is located near Hole-in-the-Rock and Omaha Chief Blackbird's grave. The sites were marked by explorers Lewis and Clark during their journey to the Pacific Northwest. Construction of the museum is set to start in 2005 and would be completed by 2007 or 2008.
