MONDAY, APRIL 1, 2002

Steve Charles has left his job as executive director of the Sacred Circle Gallery of American Indian Art in Washington.

The gallery is part of the Daybreak Star Arts & Cultural Center at Discovery Park in Seattle. Charles worked there for more than 15 years and is leaving behind a tradition of showcasing contemporary Native artists whose work doesn't necessarily fit the mold of "Indian" art.

Charles' last day was yesterday. Three exhibits he curated will run through the fall.
