Native music has hit the big time. That's because The New York Times has written about it.

It isn't the first time the paper has covered Native musicians. A few months ago, rapper Shadowyze was featured.

This time around, reporter Joshua Brockman looks at a few artists and gets some interesting quotes. Among them:

Keith Secola: "We're more than beads and feathers; so is our music."

Guitarist and lead singer Mato Nanji of Indigenous: "I think if I wrote a certain way about certain things on the res it would tend to keep other music fans away from it."

GRAMMY Executive Michael Greene: Native music will "grow, diversify and become more inclusive."

Navajo rapper Natay: "I'm going to be the native Dr. Dre."

SOAR owner Tom Bee: "There are a lot of diamonds waiting to be polished. You just have to kind of shovel through the coal."
