A federal jury in New Mexico acquitted former Acoma Pueblo Gov. Ronnie Davis Shutiva on Wednesday of allegedly stealing tribal money.

The trial lasted just a day and deliberations for a few hours. Shutiva was accused of taking $8,000 in tribal funds in 1997.

Ed. Note: The article states Shutiva was the former governor of Acoma, not Laguna. An error occurred in an earlier posting.
