Shoshone-Bannock Nation Chairman Blaine Edmo defended himself on Wednesday from accusations by an Idaho county Sheriff.

During a press conference, Edmo denied he was present at an altercation on the reservation on Tuesday. He said he was in fact holding a tribal council meeting at the same time and could not have ordered two county officers to be arrested.

But Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen is standing by his charges that his men were subject to racist treatment by tribal officials. The dispute arose when his officers were arresting tribal members on the reservation.

"The tribe is enforcing their own laws on that reservation and I will not stand for it," he said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
