Proposal paves way for monument drilling

THURSDAY, MAY 9, 2002 The Bureau of Land Management is proposing to allow a drilling company to explore for oil in a national monument in Colorado. The BLM issued an environmental assessment to allow trucks in the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. An official has issued a finding of no significant impact. The monument was created by former President Bill Clinton. Bordering Ute Mountain Ute lands, it contains one of the richest troves of Native artifacts. Get the Story:
