An Interior computer blowout
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2002

The latest issue of Federal Computer Week includes a major spread on the Department of Interior's computer shutdown.

Included are interviews with Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb, who says the department's computer systems were once a "cart and a donkey" but are now "Star Trek," and his acting Chief Information Officer Debbie Clark. A report on the fiscal year 2003 budget is also part of the feature.

Another article focuses on a similar shutdown that occurred at the Environmental Protection Agency in February 2000. The EPA's computer systems were shut down in response to a Congressional audit and it took several months for everything to be back up and running, FCW reports.
