THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2001 "With the oil fields in Alaska's North Slope in decline, exploring other areas for oil is a sensible and responsible action for our nation to take. The North Slope now provides about 25 percent of our oil. When those fields go dry, we need others to replace them. We already import about 55 percent of our oil from overseas, much of it from the troubled Middle East. . ." Get the Story:
