"Originally known as Tse-tsehese-stahase (rough translation: 'people like us'), the story of the Cheyenne is one of the most tragic examples of government-sponsored genocide in American history. Largely misunderstood and feared, the Cheyenne people suffered more than most tribes in their struggle for independence from government internment. Their defiance of assimilation is legendary and oddly ironic, given the fact that they were fighting for freedom on their own land. . ."
