Young Native takes on challenges

At 22 years old, Misty Thomas is the fitting new director of youth programs at the Lincoln Indian Center in Nebraska.

Thomas grew up on the Santee Sioux Reservation and is of Santee, Dakota, and Tlingit heritage. She graduated in August from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelor's in human resources and family sciences.

At the center, Thomas oversees $96,000 for about 25 children and teens aged 10 to 18. She says working with kids is one of her passions.
