In an editorial today, Jeffrey T. Kuhner, an assistant national editor for The Washington Times, disputes the claim that Native Americans were murdered for their land and mineral rights.

Instead, Kuhner says 90 percent of Native Americans were killed by disease and not the deliberate actions of humans. "This was an inadvertent consequence of European settlement," he writes.

Kuhner makes his remarks in response to a speech former President Bill Clinton made regarding the history of terrorism in the United States. Clinton told a crowd of university students that America used to look the other way when Native Americans were murdered.
